Summer is just around the corner! Does just the thought of bringing those shorts and bikinis out of your closet give you anxiety? We all deserve the right to feel confident and wear what we want. Here are 13 tips to help you fit into your favorite bikinis and shorts!

1. Shop wisely

Instead of being tempted by junk food in the house, buy substitutes for what you’re craving.

If you have a sweet tooth, buy fresh berries, yogurt, and fruit.

If you like crunchy, salty snacks, buy nuts, granola, celery, carrots. You can put peanut butter on the celery for a crunchy snack that has energy providing protein. If you like potato chips, make your own by slicing real potatoes or carrots and bake them in extra virgin olive oil.

2. Do some recipe research/substituting

There’s a lot of delicious, healthy food out there that’s just waiting to be made! Search for healthy recipes such as healthy banana bread and healthy sweet and sour chicken. A lot of times, substituting a few ingredients in a regular recipe makes the dish much healthier. Using 100% whole wheat pasta instead of the regular one, can provide you with more nutrients and fibers and less carbs.

3. Find your niche.

Determining the best workouts for you is essential. Write down your 10 favorite exercises (such as yoga, jump rope, walking briskly, jogging, zumba or related dance fitness, boxing, Pilates, standard exercises [such as push ups, jumping jacks and lunges], crossfit, roller skating, or bike riding) on piece of paper and number them from 1 to 10 where 1 is the easiest and 10 being the hardest.  Once your list is ready and numbered, start with the first 5 workouts and mix them up for the first week. On the second week, start including one of the last workouts everyday to increase the difficulty and provide intensity.

Music makes everything better! Make a special work out playlist so you look forward to playing it while you work out. Music also motivates you so it will give you the much needed energy to keep going.

6. Hydrate better

Summer favorites often include ice cream and other rich dessert treats. Instead of giving in to them make your own fruit smoothies or healthy popsicles.  Fruit smoothies can be made by using various fruits, vegetables and either a little honey, Stevia, or real maple syrup for extra sweetness. To make popsicles just blend fruits and vegetables and use reusable popsicle molds.

8. Make that list

Get a piece of paper and write down every reason why you are choosing to be healthier. Some examples can include feel more confident, lower chance for diseases, more energy, etc. Make the reasons personal to you. Why do you want to eat healthy? Why do you want to get in shape? Once you complete this list put it somewhere you will see it every day. Perhaps on the mirror or on the refrigerator; just pick a place where you will see it often. This list will help keep you motivated. Every time you feel lazy or feel like giving up, look at this list to remind yourself the reasons why you have to keep going.

9. Keep on your feet

Take as many steps as you can during the day. Take the stairs, park farther away so you have to walk to your car, if you’re watching a tv show get up and move when the commercials come on. It’s important to keep up and move to burn calories.
