Materials for a DIY Centerpiece:

  • Glass Vase (different dimensions)
  • Glass bottles
  • Water
  • Candles (floating and long candlesticks)
  • Some greens (pine needle branches)
  • Winterberry stems
  • Shiny beaded garland
  • Scissors
  • Long skewer
  • Lighter
  • Superglue
  • Ribbons

Tutorial #1: Large Vase Centerpiece

This festive DIY tutorial is the perfect centerpiece for any place in your home. Place it on your dining table, on the kitchen countertop, or on a side table to add a nice, warm glow to your home!

  1. For this DIY centerpiece, you’ll want to use a vase with a large opening. Take your different greens and pine needle branches and insert them into the opening of the vase.
  2. Drape a strand of the shiny bead garland around the bottom of the vase.
  3. Add in a few stems of your winterberry plant for color.
  4. Feel free to adjust the composition of the plants and stems in any arrangement you’d like.
  5. Once your arrangement is finished, you can start to fill your vase with water. Pour water through the opening of the vase until it almost reaches the top.
  6. Add your floating water candles.

Tutorial #2: Small Version of Vase Centerpiece

This centerpiece is a smaller version of the previous tutorial. It’s ideal for smaller spaces in your home (like an entryway console or nightstand).

  1. Start by choosing one of your smaller vases. It still should have a wider opening since we will be adding floating candles.
  2. Place the beaded garland at the bottom of the vase.
  3. Take a few smaller strands of the greenery (pine needle branches and winterberry stems) and arrange them inside the vase as well.
  4. Pour in the water to top up the vase.
  5. Add the floating candles to the top and light them for a warm glow!

Tutorial #3: Long Candlesticks

Wondering how to make a centerpiece with long candlesticks? This DIY centerpiece tutorial is very similar to the previous two tutorials, although we will be using different types of candles (and even more festive decoration) to make it more festive.

  1. For this tutorial, you can use different size wine or glass water bottles. It doesn’t matter if they look similar (we love the rustic look when they are different sizes and shapes).
  2. Stick different pieces of your pine needle greenery inside the bottle. It might be tough to squeeze it through the opening, but it’s easy with a few tries.
  3. Add the water to fill up the top of the bottle.
  4. Now, we will add the long candlesticks to the opening of the bottle. If the candle is too thick to stick into the top, you might need to use a knife to carve away the excess wax at the bottom. You can also add a folded strip of paper towel (wrap it around the bottom of the candle and stick it in the opening of the bottle).
  5. If you are happy with your DIY centerpiece, you can use it just the way it is. However, you can also add a ribbon around the neck of the bottle. Not only does it add more color and Christmas spirit, but it also hides the transition of where the candlestick is poking out.
  6. Tie a bow and glue the ribbon to the bottle for extra security.
  7. Light the candlestick and enjoy your beautiful holiday centerpiece!
