Make this adorable 4th of July Gnome for your garden, fireplace mantel, or anywhere else that needs a bit of red, white, and blue!

Independence Day is one of our favorite holidays, which is why we came up with this decorative 4th of July gnome tutorial! Gnomes symbolize good luck – something we could all use a little more of in our lives! So make this adorable patriotic gnome and bring a bit of happiness and love into your home or garden!

Materials for a 4th of July Gnome:

Instructions:

  1. We’re going to start by making the body of the 4th of July gnome. Cut a small square from a piece of white fabric.
  2. Place the rock in the center of the fabric and top with a handful of poly-fill.
  3. Cut two pieces of yarn (make sure they are long enough to tie around the rock and poly-fill).
  4. Gather the fabric around the rock and a small portion of poly-fill to create a small pouch. Then, tie a piece of yarn around the top to secure the materials inside.
  5. Now gather another bit of fabric around the rest of the poly-fill. This will create a second “ball” on top of the first section. Tie with a piece of yarn.
  6. Cut any excess fabric you have on top of the second “ball”. Now you have your patriotic gnome body!
  7. Let’s move on to the 4th of July gnome’s beard. Take your yarn and measure out how long you want the beard to be. Now, cut as many strands as you want (we recommend around 20).
  8. Cut two skinny strips from the white fabric.
  9. Lay one piece of fabric on the table and place the yarn pieces over it.
  10. Take your hot glue gun and add glue to the yarn pieces that are touching the fabric strip.
  11. Place the second fabric strip over the yarn with the glue. Let cool.
  12. Using a pet brush, gently brush out the yarn to give the beard a fuller, bushier look.
  13. Now, add glue to the fabric strip and connect the beard to the second “ball” on the body. This is attaching the beard to the head of your patriotic gnome!
  14. It’s time to make the hat. Take a piece of square blue fabric and fold it from one corner to another to make a triangle.
  15. Decide how tall you want the hat to be and make a line with your fabric marker. Then cut the hat out on a curve to make a cone shape.

  16. Add hot glue about ½ an inch from the edge of the fabric. Fold the edge over the glue to make a hem in the hat.
  17. Fold the hat in half (leaving 1 inch between the edges of the fabric).
  18. Take the floral wire and create a small loop. Then cut the wire to the length of your hat.
  19. Glue the leftover edge of your hat together to create a hollow tube.
  20. Move the fabric hat around the wire into a crinkled cone shape. Then, fold the end of the wire to secure it inside the hat.
  21. Now, glue the hat onto the head. Feel free to add pleats and twists to give your 4th of July gnome some more personality!
  22. Attach your fabric stars and colored fabric strips to decorate the hat!
  23. Glue the bead onto the head to create the nose.
  24. Finally, we can make the legs. Cut two long, rectangular pieces from the red fabric.
  25. Place a dab of hot glue on one edge. Then add bits of poly-fill up the strip for the leg filling.
  26. Close the leg by rolling the fabric and using the hot glue to secure it together.
  27. Repeat for the second leg.
  28. Cute square pieces of any fabric you like to make little boots. Add poly-fil.
  29. Gather the fabric around this leg and secure it with a piece of yarn.
  30. Repeat for the second leg.
  31. To finish off our gnome, simply glue his legs to his body, and ta-da!

This little 4th of July gnome can be used a décor for your festive summer BBQ. Speaking of 4th of July BBQs, why not whip up these delicious patriotic cupcakes? And don’t forget to wash them down with these red, white, and blue-themed cocktails too! Happy 4th, everyone!
